We’re saddenedby the recent attack in Atlantathat killedeightpeople, six ofwhomwereAsianor Asian American women.Since the beginning of the pandemic,Asian Americansand Pacific Islanders in the U.S. havefaceda rise in harassment and violence.We want to show our solidarity and compassion to the families of the victims:
We hope the AUP community willjoinus in mourning their lives.Journalists on the ground are still gathering information about the attacks. For now, we encourage reflection on how race, gender, labor, migration, empire, and wartime legacies may shape the circumstances of the shooting.
While this attack occurred in the US last week, we alsoreflect ontheAsian communitieshere in France since the beginning of thepandemic.Weknowthatsome of youhave faced thisprejudicewhile living here. Faculty, staff, and students have told us that they’ve been spat onortold to goback “home.”We want you to know that we’re here for you.
