We’ll begin with an explanation of the three different types of “Selves”, then a brief look at self-concept and self-esteem. This will lead us into a discussion of the influence on advertising on an individual’s self-concept. We’ll continue with an explanation and discussion of the extended self, and conclude with an examination of gender differences in socialization and expectations.

This mini-class will start with a very brief introduction to case analysis and its use in business education. Participants will receive a short case on a cross-cultural business issue, discuss it in small groups, and produce a summary presentation to share with the class. Following the presentations and a debrief, we’ll wrap-up with some theoretical concepts and supporting materials.

The mini class deals with the concept of “family business “. What do we mean by Family Business? Unfortunately, no unified definition exists. As we will see, for the policymaker this uncertainty entails making comparison across countries (and studies) extremely difficult. Hence it is argued that a distinction should be made between 3 different types of definition– 1) a broad, inclusive definition, 2) a middle definition, and 3) a tight or narrow definition.Ěý
