Gabriel Wick

Professor Wick is an art historian, writer and curator whose research focuses on the designed environment. He first taught at AUP in 2014. He initially trained as a landscape architect and planner at the University of California, Berkeley (MLA, 2003) and worked in those fields inĚýNew York and Paris. In 2011 he completed a second masters on the conservation of historic landscapes at ÉNSA–Versailles. In 2017 he completed his doctoral researchĚýin history at Queen Mary–University of London.Ěý
His research focuses on 18th-century landscapes, designs and political culture. He is the author ofĚýGardens in Revolution: Landscapes and Political Culture in France, 1760–1792Ěý(Harvey Miller / Brepols, 2025). He also co-curated the exhibitionsĚýComte d'Artois: Prince et MĂ©cèneĚý(Château of Maisons / CMN, Winter 2025-2026);ĚýLe Petit SalonĚý(Middlebury College Art Museum, Autumn, 2025);ĚýVivre Ă l'AntiqueĚý(Château of RambouilletĚý/ CMN, Spring 2021) andĚýHubert Robert et la fabrique des JardinsĚý(Château of La Roche-Guyon, Autumn 2017).Ěý
His current research project looks at 18th-century authors' homes and gardens. He teaches at NYU Paris and also lectures for the École du Louvre.Ěý
